May 2017

There are still a number of entry fees not paid by members. Please note that if any outstanding entry fees are not paid by Monday 15th May, the entrant will be removed from the draw.

Many thanks to everyone who has entered Terry’s annual fundraiser, there is still time to enter a team simply logon on to BRS to reserve a tee time.

Whilst the tee has not been closed for this event, any bookings on BRS should be used as entry in the competition only. We use BRS to order the required number of meals for the day, therefore anyone who has reserved a time will be charged accordingly.

The 13th May sees the first GOY of the season and I’d like to remind members of a couple of items. Firstly to assist members in keeping the pace of play down to a manageable length of time, John Kay has once again kindly agreed to act as Starter. Secondly, please be aware that John has been asked to penalise anyone late on the tee and finally can I also add that it is the player’s responsibility to ensure that their score card is correctly filled out with competition, date, name and handicap to avoid being disqualified.

I wish you a successful and enjoyable season

QUIZ NIGHT – Friday 26th May

Quiz night poster

April 2017

The Easter Teams of 3 started off our 2017 season off the white tees. On a positive note, all cards had competition name, date, player and handicap, thank you.

However please note, there were 7 teams that had 1 or more player ‘No Return’ therefore their teams were excluded. There were 5 players who failed to submit a card, and under competition rules these players would have been suspended and unable to enter the next competition, as it is the first summer competition of the year and it is Easter this is going to be waived on this occasion. PLEASE BE WARNED THIS WILL NOT BE THE CASE IN FUTURE COMPETITIONS.

Regards Chris and Jonathan

Golf Committee

As we approach the start of the summer season we would like to update you on a few items, including some minor changes to the competition rules.

  1. The summer knockout draws have been made and are on the notice board in the Men’s Locker room. (There are a substantial number of members who have yet to pay their entry fees for the competitions, could you please do so as soon as possible!)
  1. The Committee has decided to adopt the Local Rule proposed by the R&A in relation to “Accidental movement of a ball on the putting green – Rules 18-2, 18-3 and 20-1 are modified as follows:

When a player’s ball lies on the putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball-marker is accidentally moved by the player, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or equipment.

The moved ball or ball-marker must be replaced as provided in Rules 18-2, 18-3 and 20-1.

This Local Rule applies only when the player’s ball or ball-marker lies on the putting green and any movement is accidental.

Note: If it is determined that a player’s ball on the putting green was moved as a result of wind, water or some other natural cause such as the effects of gravity, the ball must be played as it lies from its new location. A ball-marker moved in such circumstances is replaced.”

  1. The Committee have also decided to introduce a temporary rule in relation to balls which come to rest in an area of the green affected by Fusarium damage. If your ball comes to rest IN an area which has been damaged it may be lifted and placed immediately adjacent to the damaged area no nearer the hole and by no more than 1” (25mm) from the edge of the damage it has come to rest in, on an area of undamaged green, without penalty. The purpose of this temporary rule is to at least allow the ball to start moving on undamaged green, even though it may have to travel over further damage on route to the hole.
  1. The White tees will be in use for the Easter Teams of 3 on Saturday.
  1. A reminder in relation to filling in your competition cards. Please ensure you put the Competition Name, Date, your name and handicap on the card in accordance with local competition rules (available on the website under Members Area).

Finally, we wish you a great golfing season.

Regards Chris and Jonathan

Golf Committee

2017 is proving to be a unique year for Sitwell Park, as we have two Sheffield Presidents and a British Captain. On Friday 3rd March Alan Wood (our 2001 captain) was elected as the President of the Sheffield Society of Golf Captains. On Monday the 6th March our Centenary captain John Reynard took over as President of the Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs. Last but not least, John Carrington (our 2012 captain) is the 2017 Captain of the British Left Handed Golfers Association.

We wish them a successful year.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the rules night has had to be moved to Wednesday 15th March starting at 7.15pm.

If you’ve not already put you’re name down, enter your name on the sheet on the main notice board, alternatively email the secretary secretary@sitwellgolf.co.uk
