Our Ladies section held their Spring Meeting on Wednesday 1st May. With the weather warming up, the rain keeping off, and a good turnout of keen good spirited ladies, we looked to be in for a good day’s golf.
With some great scores coming in at the end of the day the winners were

To finish the day off in fine style Sue, Gren and their team served us some excellent food, including Seabass, Lasagne, Chicken Caesar Salad, with Sticky Toffee pudding being one of 3 desserts.

Unfortunately due to complications carrying out essential work on the irrigation on the 5th hole, this will be on a temporary green today.
As we are not permitted to hold a qualifying competition on a temporary green with an non-conforming cup, we have had no option but to postpone today’s Medal A.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused, however it is essential this is carried out in preparation for the work to once and for all resolve the issues we’ve had with the 5th green which is due to start next Wednesday.
Our Quizmaster, Steve Cavill has arranged the next quiz night on Friday 10th MAY starting at 8.30pm.

Unfortunately following consultation with Yorkshire Golf Union and CONGU, we are unable to use the maximum score option for Medal competitions and therefore this has been removed.
Members need to record their actual score as previously on their scorecards.
1996 Captain and Golf chairman of many years standing Roger Stirling was presented at the AGM with a commemorative bowl to mark his 50 years as a Sitwell member. Roger is pictured below with 2018 Captain Neil Widdop.
We have recently updated the Handicap/Competition software to Club V1, and this In order to reduce the number of small prize money pay outs in some competitions where there are a number of ties, the Golf Committee have decided to pay out prize money based on the top 3 in each division. Tied scores will be ranked based on the traditional back 9, back 6, back 3 scores.
Scores which are potential winning scores based on the Stableford Adjustment of the new Club V1 system may not be eligible.
Finally the closing date for entering this year’s knockouts is Monday 1st April, to make sure you’re in the draw please ensure that your entry and fees are completed by this weekend
We have recently updated the Handicap/Competition software to Club V1, and this will hopefully reduce the number of issues we have had with entering scores in recent times.
The software allows us to put an automatic Stableford Adjustment to scores set at 5 over par on any given hole. The effect of this is twofold. Firstly, if you are going to score more than 5 over par on a hole you can pick up as the system will automatically put a 5 over par score in when you put a 0, this should aid with speeding up play. Secondly, if you NR on a hole you can continue playing knowing that the recorded score for handicap purposes will be 5 over par. This should reduce the number of NR’s returned every week. This is approved by England Golf.
Additionally, anyone who enters the competition an fails to record a score, will have their score automatically entered at 5 over par on each hole. This way all scores/cards will be accounted for. This will impact on Competition Standard Scratch. It was trialled on Saturdays medal and had the effect of raising CSS from 71 to 72.

Now that we’ve all recovered from the Christmas and New Year period I thought an
update would be a good idea.
Firstly can I offer a very warm welcome to the new members who have joined over
the last few weeks Mark Nicholson, Glen Abrahams, Lee Kaighin,
Josh Hemingway, Keith Rigney, Ryan Bust, Steve Benn and Chris Connelly. In
addition we also have three lady members who we are delighted to welcome
Denise Mathews, Gill Johnson and Sandra Rippon. Im sure you will all have a
great time here over the years to come.
Over the last few weeks I’ve been working with Jonathon and Rebecca Nellar on a
marketing campaign part of which requires feed back from our existing members.
In the next week or so everyone should receive a questionnaire sent through BRS.
If I could ask everyone to fill this in it would help enormously in not only our
marketing strategy but also in finding what you the members want moving forward.
If you’re not already aware we have a new scratch team manager for our newly
promoted team so on behalf of all members I’d like to wish Bob Moore and the
team the best of luck this year. If anyone is interested in joining the squad I’m sure
Bob would be very pleased to hear from you.
On the golfing front the season will be here before we know it and it’s looking like
we’re in for a great year ahead. As previously advised the competition entry forms
have moved from the locker room up to the bar. Two items to note firstly we are
trialling an invitation day on a Saturday this year which is on June 15th and offers a
great opportunity for you to show off the course, secondly we have our inaugural
Pro-Am tournament which is on Friday 4th of October and should prove to be a
great success. It’s never too soon to get those invites out to your family and
Looking into March this year National Grid are changing the electrical pylons from
the 3rd tee down the side of the 9th to the 8th green. This is currently scheduled
from the 11th to the 15th and obviously will cause some disruption which you will
be notified of nearer the time.
Our Course Manager Martin Hayward continues to post daily tweets and these can
be found @Sitwell_greens you may even get the odd photo and video there.
Our Vice Captain Michael Hinchliffe has booked several bands and artists for the
coming year. The first event is scheduled for Saturday 30th March which is the
Captains ins and out buffet and dance. It’s a smart casual affair and we hope to
see as many there as possible. Further details can be found around the clubhouse.
Prior to that I’m pleased to announce our very own quiz master Steve Cavill will
continue with his increasingly popular quiz nights the next one being Friday 15th
March, food can as always be pre booked.
