1.                 LOCAL RULES

OUT OF BOUNDS

  • Beyond any Wall, Fence or Hedge bounding the Course.
  • Beyond any line of WHITE stakes bounding the Course.
  • Beyond chain link fencing surrounding practice putting green and Clubhouse.
  • In or beyond the grip surrounding the practice ground on left of the 1st and 2nd holes (except when Winter Greens are in play, when it doesn’t apply on the 1st hole).
  1. WATER HAZARDS

Are marked by YELLOW stakes.

  1. LATERAL WATER HAZARDS.

Are marked by RED stakes.

  1. STONES IN BUNKERS.

Stones in bunkers are moveable obstructions. Rule: 24.1.

  1. OVERHEAD ELECTRIC CABLES

A ball striking any overhead cable MUST be replayed without penalty.

  1. INTEGRAL PARTS OF THE COURSE

All stone walls, bridges and paths covered in Astro Turf are integral parts of the course. A ball must be played as it lies or declared unplayable for a penalty drop.  Rule 28

  1. WELL (11TH) BELL TOWER(17TH) & BLACK & TANN (12TH)

The Well, Bell Tower and the Black & Tann are ‘immovable obstructions’ and relief may be taken under RULE 24.2

  1. FIXED SPRINKLER HEADS

All fixed sprinkler heads are immovable obstructions and relief from interference by them taken under RULE 24.2

  1. OBSTRUCTIONS

The following are immovable obstructions and relief may be taken under RULE 24.2

  • Trees with stakes, White rings or Plastic Stem covers.
  • Fixed seats
  • Artificially surfaced paths and drainage ditches covered with artificial aggregate.
  1. WINTER GREENS

All winter greens are deemed ‘Ground under repair play prohibited’ the ball MUST be dropped at the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole, no penalty.

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF LOCAL RULE:

MATCH PLAY – LOSS OF HOLE.  STROKE PLAY – 2 STROKE

2.             WINTER RULES

During the period, Winter Rules are in force:

  1. A ball lying on a closely mown area through the green (cut to fairway height or less) may be marked, cleaned and placed within a winter card length, approximately six inches (150mm) of where it originally lay, but not nearer the hole, without penalty. Rule 20.1
  1. Occasionally during “closely mown area conditions” teeing-up has to be introduced as per the notice board near putting green.
  1. An embedded (plugged) ball on the fairway except in a hazard, may be lifted cleaned and dropped, not nearer the hole, without penalty. Any embedded ball not on the fairway or in a hazard may be lifted and dropped accordingly but not cleaned.
  1. TEMPORARY (WINTER) GREENS

Must not be played from. The ball MUST be lifted and dropped, not nearer the hole, without penalty.

3.0      RULES RELATING TO ON COURSE PRIORITY.

  1. All players taking part in official Club Competitions have priority over non-Competitors and visitors.
  1. A single player has no standing and MUST always give way to a properly constituted match.
  1. Any match playing a whole round may claim the right to pass a match playing a shorter round. Players engaged in a club Competition shall be entitled to have the honour from the tee and pass any other on the Course.
  1. If any match fails to keep its place on the course, and loses more than one clear hole, it should invite the following match through.
  1. Players who intend to look for a lost ball should allow a match playing behind to pass through.
  1. Players starting at the 13th tee, upon arriving at the first tee from the 18th, shall take the honour alternately with matches starting at the 1st tee.
  • 5 & 6 DAY MEMBERS
  1. 6 Day members have full members playing rights Sunday through to Friday. They may play social Golf after 4-00pm on a Saturday.
  2. 6 Day members are not allowed to play in any Saturday Competition unless given express permission by the Committee/Captain. Please see Individual Competition rules.
  3. 5 Day Members have full members playing rights Monday through to Friday. Please see list of competitions on page 10 for available events.
  4. 5 Day Members are not allowed to play at weekends, unless given express permission by the Committee/Captain. Please see Individual Competition Rules.
  5. 5 or 6 Day Members who play in Thursday Medals and win a Medal, can qualify for the Gold Medal Finals.
  • RULES FOR COMPETITIONS

Strokeplay.

  1. Competitors & markers MUST complete the Competition register BEFORE commencing play and log in on the computer. Failure to complete the register will result in an automatic non-entry to the competition. (In the event of computer failure, signing the register only is required.)
  1. A member may not enter a competition before he has been given an official England Golf Club handicap.
  1. For a member to be eligible to enter any of the major club competitions he MUST have returned at least 3 ‘qualifyingscores’ in the previous years playing season. These can be Medal or Stableford scores which count for handicapping purposes. NO RETURNS DO NOT count as a qualifying score. As per CONGU rules the players handicap record should show a ‘c’ to indicate a competitive handicap.
  1. Any member signing or being signed in, on to the electronic booking system for a starting time, and failing to attend more than 5 minutes after their allotted tee time will incur a TWO COMPETITION SUSPENSION. He will not be allowed to enter his name on the next two starting sheets.
  1. All players taking part in official club competitions have precedence over non-competitors and visitors.
  1. Score cards must be marked hole by hole immediately after leaving the green.
  1. Under the R&A Rules of Golf 33-5, the Committee formally requests that each competitor records the date and his name on the score card.

In addition, by Golf Committee Regulation, each competitor should record his handicap and the competition name on the score card, together with his nett score/points for each hole in the appropriate column.

The Competitor is responsible for his card being correctly marked. This to include gross score at each hole, in the correct column and signed by player and marker. The gross score should be entered for each hole in the computer and the card placed in the competition box. Failure to comply may result in a suspension from the next competition.

  1. Competitors in any club competition MUST start at the first tee.
  1. Competitors tying in major Strokeplay competition (i.e. Scratch Medal, Gough Cup & Gold Medal finals) will replay over 18 holes, within 1 HOUR of each other. All these replays will be organised by the Golf Committee.
  1. Ties in other Strokeplay Competitions shall be decided on the back 9, 6, 3 or 1 holes of the card, if still all square, it shall be worked back, hole by hole, starting at the 1st.

Matchplay.

  1. Entrance Fees must be paid before the closing date of entry into the Competition.
  1. All matches must be played from the Medal tees unless otherwise specified by the Committee.

Dent Cup and Wright Cup will be played from Yellow tees.

Top Dogs and Buck Rabbits will be played on tees of the day.

  1. The time limits imposed by the Golf Committee will be strictly enforced. No extensions will be granted, other than those initiated by the Golf Committee due to weather/course conditions. In certain cases players may appeal to the Golf Committee before the closing date otherwise rule 4 applies.
  1. The responsibility for arranging matches rests equally on both parties in each tie. A match which has not been completed by/on the closing date will result in BOTH SIDES DISQUALIFICATION.

It is courtesy for the losing side(s) to put the name(s) of the winner(s) forward on completion of the match. If the names or not put forward by the closing date the committee will presume that the match has not been played and Matchplay Competition Rule 4 will be enforced.

  1. In the event of a tie, competitors will continue playing the 19th, 20th etc, until one player or team win a hole, which will decide the match. Strokes to be taken at the same holes as the first round.
  1. All 36 hole Matchplay Finals must be arranged via the Golf Committee when a date and referee (if required) shall be appointed.

Handicap Adjustments

Any winner of one of the following club competitions will receive an automatic 1 stroke reduction in handicap per competition won. This will come into effect at the Annual Handicap Review.

CAPTAINS PRIZE – (Weekend)

Prizes nominated by the Captain of the Year.

Played over 2 days Saturday and Sunday, individual strokeplay

Saturday:  18 Medal play (incorporating G.O.Y. Medal.)

Sunday:  18 hole stableford (incorporating Sunday Stableford)

Captains Aggregate Prizes:

36 Hole Competition taking Sundays Stableford score away from Saturdays nett medal score. Lowest aggregate wins. In the event of a tie Sundays card counts as back card.

No adjustment of handicap between rounds.

Captains Saturday Nett:

Best nett scores from Saturday Medal.

Captains Sunday Stableford:

Best points from Sunday Stableford round.

Handicapping:

Handicap limit 18.  36 hole aggregate competition first round handicap to apply.

Members Eligibility:

36 Hole and Saturday Medal Open to Full Playing Members and Juniors (18 hcp max).

Sunday Stableford open to Full Playing and 6 Day Members.

Junior prizes at the discretion of the Captain.

PRIZES TO BE PRESENTED AT A PRIZE PRESENTATION ON THE SUNDAY EVENING FOLLOWING THE COMPETITION, WHEN ALL PLAYERS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND.

PRIZE WINNERS WHO DO NOT ATTEND OR DON’T GIVE APOLOGIES FOR NON-ATTENDANCE TO EITHER THE CAPTAIN OR THE GOLF CHAIRMAN WILL HAVE THEIR PRIZES PASSED ON.

GOLFER of the YEAR.

The best 9 cards of 13 Saturday medals played through the season.

The winner best 9 cards based on NETT DIFFERENTIAL against Competition Standard Scratch.

In the event of a tie, the result will be decided on the last 5 or 3 or 1 Cards.

Handicap:     Handicap limit 18. Players of handicaps above may play but scores will be adjusted back to 18 Limit.

Eligibility:    Open to Full Playing Members and Juniors (N.B. Juniors must play with at least one Full Playing Member).

Qualification: By winning or tying the best nett score of any G.O.Y.  or Thursday Medals.

Players play in the division they are in on the date of the competition final.

TOP DOGS

18 Holes 4 Ball Better Ball Matchplay knockout. 18 hole final.

Handicap:              0 -12. On closing date of Entry.

Eligibility: Open to Full Playing Members, 6 day members and Juniors.

BUCK RABBITS

18 Holes 4 Ball Better Ball Matchplay knockout. 18 hole final.

Handicap:                          13-28. On closing date of Entry

Eligibility:              Open to Full Playing Members, 6 day members and Juniors.

Handicaps relating to Top Dogs and Buck Rabbits.

Entry into the Top Dogs or Buck Rabbits Competitions is determined by players handicap on the closing date of entry into the Competition.

Entrants who qualify for the Top Dogs, 12 and below, if their Handicap rises above 12 after the closing date of the Competition, must still play off 12.

Entrants who qualify for the Buck Rabbits, 13 – 28, must play off their handicap of the day, so if their handicap falls below 13 during their time in the Competition they must play off the lower handicap.

INVITATION DAYS

The Club will run two Invitation Days in the Calendar Year.

Format:  18 Holes

          Single Round: 18 Hole 4 BBB Stableford Round.

Handicap:     Limit 24.

Allowance:   90% Hcp allowance.

Meals will be available on the day and Prize Presentations will take place in the Clubhouse in the evening.

Members Eligibility:

Invitation Days 1 & 2

Full playing and 6 Day Members and Juniors are allowed to bring guests to each of the Invitation Days.
